We were long overdue for a date and a break from Snake. We decided to check out a popular American restaurant/sports bar, Chili’s. It was located in the heart of Makati in the Greenbelt area. The place itself was sweet. The food, well,…
was good enough to pass for Chili’s, but, it seemed like something was different. Ann had the crunchy chicken salad (her first garden salad- garden salads are pretty much non-existent in the Phils.). I had a Philly beef and Swiss sandwich. It wasn’t my usual order, but I chose something that wouldn’t be easy to duplicate in the Philippines.
I’d say the Philly was 90% there. I guess it was just missing good old American grease. The salad was decent. Ann’s impressions? She was impressed with the American sized portions of the meal. You see, here, restaurants like to “skimp” on the portions. Most meals here would seem like an appetizer. Same goes for the eating home-cooked meals for Filipinos.
Pinoys = naturally small bodies = smaller eating proportions
The atmosphere was the same but a little subdued. The drinks were bottomless. The prices were the SAME, so Filipinos will find that place expensive. We’ve also tried out Outback Steak House, T.G.I.Friday’s, and American pizza joints. They are all pretty close to what Americans are used to.
Sorry for the fuzzy shot. We were catching a taxi rushing home to our boy. End date.
